I was thinking about some of the silly casino tricks I’ve thought might actually work throughout my time as a gambler. It’s amazing how I have fooled myself into thinking some of these things actually work. I wanted to explore a really dumb thing that many of us have done in relation to poker. Joining a poker table with a small bankroll can be a disaster.
As the gambler that I am, I am willing to bet that I’m not alone in this no-no. Let me describe a scenario and see if it rings any bells.
You’re a poker newbie and you’re about to play your first game of poker in an online casino or land based casino. You saw a poker tournament on TV and thought, “Hey, I can do that”. “No problem”. You’ve played for potato chips at parties plenty so you know the game. You’re a bit naïve and you start with let’s say 40 bucks.
You see that the black chips are flowing like the waters of Niagara Falls. You look at your short stack and realize that you may not make it through the first hand. Some games such as Poker leave no room for players with tiny bankrolls to be successful. Ever heard of “dead money”? Well that’s you when you are sitting there penniless and unable to cover your bets. I have been that poor soul at one time or another. It took one time though. I never made that mistake again.
Just because I saw Barry Greenstein and his cronies playing on ESPN doesn’t mean I ready to take the plunge. The most expensive sunglasses in the world can’t bail us out of this bad scenario.
Have you ever made this mistake and felt like a fool? Come on, share your stories. I admitted my moment of insanity.
